Drilling Services Company

A drilling services company provides services related to creating holes in the ground for various purposes, including mining, oil and gas exploration, and infrastructure development. Drilling companies offer a range of services, from initial exploration drilling to production drilling and specialized engineering solutions.

The Situation

Our client supports drilling, completion and production projects around Australia. Consequently, their employee drivers often work long and irregular hours, which increases the risk of fatigue and accidents.

Our client installed fatigue cameras in their vehicles to detect signs of drowsiness and alert the drivers. However, supervisors and leaders were also burdened with the task of responding to fatigue camera events after-hours, which affected their own well-being and productivity.

The Solution

The company then approached the NRC to discuss options relating to employee safety monitoring services, specifically to handle the fatigue camera events.

Today, NRC's trained operators verify the fatigue events by viewing the footage and then contact the drivers to conduct a welfare check and provide guidance. NRC's response operators also follow up with the drivers after a break or arrange for alternative support from the clients supervisors if needed. All activity is then documented by the NRC's operators relating to fatigue events and the actions taken. This is summarised in a monthly report to the client's management team.

Where We Are Now

The benefits of adopting the NRC's Employee Monitoring Service, tailored to the client can be summarised as follows;

  1. Reduced the after-hours interruptions to its supervisors and leaders, allowing them to focus on their rest.
  2. The process ensured a consistent and professional approach to the monitoring of fatigue events, which aligned with its health and safety commitments.
  3. Overall, the solution improved the welfare and satisfaction of its drivers and leaders.
